Tigers are listed as endangered on the United States Endangered Species List. Around 7,600 tigers remain in the wild at present. The sad fact is that every subspecies of the tiger is endangered.
The populations of tigers have declined due to the loss of habitat. With the expansion of human populations that eliminated natural prey and that spread agricultural land use, the destruction of the tiger's habitat became the major threat to its survival.
As the growing interest in Asian cultures, as well as Asian medicine, rose, tiger parts usages in traditional Asian healing remedies also became known which accelerated tiger poaching. Some Chinese medical practitioners claim that almost every part of the tiger has some particular healing effect. Unable to reproduce rapidly enough or overcome human impact, the tiger began to disappear.
Tigers - Pictures Information - Are They Dangerous?
Some tigers have been reported to be man-eaters. Basically, tigers try to avoid humans. Tigers may become man-eaters when people introduce domesticated livestock into tiger habitat and reduce the available prey for the tigers. Once having eaten a human, the tiger seeks this almost defenseless prey over and over. Old or disabled tigers are known to be dangerous for people, since they are unable to hunt other game successfully. Those healthy adult tigers that were reported to have killed people were from accidental encounters.
