The animals may have rather great territories; they may be as large as 120 square miles. A male’s home range overlaps several females’ territories, but he never disturbs females. The dominant male copulates with all the females that live inside his territory. Nursing females are very protective around their young and defend them aggressively against males that may kill the cubs. Litters usually contain 3-4 cubs, and they are born blind and helpless. They start eating meat 6-8 weeks after birth, and begin to hunt independently at 1.5-2 years old.

These cats are solitary animals that prefer to hunt and live alone. They have territories that are divided between the animals and they do not trespass the boarders. The territories are rather big and they may be about 10 to 30 square miles. As long as they avoid contacts with each other, they rarely fight. The size of the territory depends on the amount of prey available and the density of vegetation; the scarcer the food, the larger the territory. Females have smaller home ranges than males.
